Independent Review of icare's Improvement Program released

The First Quarterly Update on icare's progress in addressing the McDougall and GAC Recommendations prepared by independent assurer, Promontory Australia, has been released.

Promontory has been engaged to provide independent assurance over icare's Improvement Program as it relates to the recommendations of the McDougall and GAC reviews.

Promontory's observations to date indicate that there is a strong commitment to the delivery of the Improvement Program and towards ensuring that it provides an appropriate foundation to address the wide-ranging concerns raised in the reviews.

Importantly, icare has been refining the outcomes of the Improvement Program to ensure that these address the recommendations of the reviews and to provide a clear target state for the changes it is implementing.

Considerable work has commenced across a range of areas in the Improvement Program. As at 8 February 2022, 86 percent of activities to address the McDougall Recommendations are in progress and four percent are complete pending our assessment.

In relation to addressing the GAC Recommendations, 86 percent of activities are in progress and 11 percent are complete pending sign-off. It is expected that the remaining recommendations will be completed gradually by icare over the next two years.

Promontory will continue to report on icare's progress in executing the Improvement Program in future quarterly updates, which will be published on the icare website.

"This is a comprehensive program of reform and remediation focusing on improving risk and governance, improving performance, particularly getting injured workers back to work sooner, reducing internal costs and driving an accountable culture", icare CEO Richard Harding said.

"There is still much work to do, and we are absolutely committed to the task. We have made sound progress so far and it's pleasing to have Promontory recognise that."

"This is about lasting, positive change – not superficial quick fixes – and it will take time. Beyond that, we are committed to building a culture of constant improvement. We must keep working so icare can better care for the people of NSW, building confidence and trust so our communities can thrive."
