Referrals to Assistive Technology Hub now open: support for people living with brain injury

Do you know someone living with a brain injury who experiences daily life challenges? If so, you can now refer them to the Assistive Technology Hub for a clinical assessment and ongoing support.

People living with a brain injury can experience a variety of cognitive and physical challenges that may affect their attention and concentration, information processing, short and long- term memory, executive function (including motivation, planning and decision-making).

To provide support in this area, icare has partnered with Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research and the South Western Sydney Local Health District to establish the Assistive Technology Hub.

What is the Assistive Technology Hub?

The Assistive Technology Hub is a specialist service dedicated to assisting individuals living with brain injury to access and utilise assistive technology. The service aims to:

  • Increase an individual’s independence
  • Reduce reliance on formal and informal support
  • Build the capacity of referrers and supports to deliver ongoing AT interventions

What kind of support is available?

The Assistive Technology Hub provides fee-for-service tailored services based on an individual client’s needs. This includes an assessment to identify suitable assistive technology based on the individual’s goals or identify how their existing technology could be best utilised to support independence.

If suitable assistive technology solutions are identified, then a trial of the technology can occur to ensure that it is the best solution to meet the client’s needs. The service can then assist with technology prescription, training and evaluation to ensure the solution is implemented successfully.

Who can access the Assistive Technology Hub?

The Assistive Technology Hub is for residents of metropolitan Sydney living with a brain injury with access to the service determined following a clinical assessment.

Who can refer?

  • People living with a brain injury
  • Family members/carers of people living with a brain injury
  • Providers and clinicians supporting people living with a brain injury
