SIRA initiatives
The State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA) assists workers with various vocational programs to ensure you recover or, when appropriate, obtain new employment.
Mediation
Mediation is an opportunity for both worker and employer to participate with a neutral third-party mediator to assist with conflicts and negotiate a mutual agreement. Through assistance finding solutions, mediation can assist with early intervention and achieving a sustainable return to work.
It's important to note, mediation is not a form of counselling or finding fault or blame in a party. Effective mediation can assist with addressing workplace issues and barriers for return to work in a safe environment. If you're considering participating in mediation, please discuss mediation with your treating parties, rehabilitation consultant and insurer.
Recover at Work Assist for Small Business
The program assists small employers who are experiencing financial hardship provide suitable work for their worker. The program aims to have a worker recover at work after a work-related injury.
Work trial program
The work trial assists you through a voluntary short-term period of suitable work. In this program, if your pre-injury employer is unable to provide you with suitable work, you may be eligible for a work trial with a new employer for up to 12 weeks. Please discus the eligibility criteria with your insurer and rehabilitation consultant.
Equipment and workplace modification program
If you feel you require equipment or workplace modifications to return to work, please discuss this with your treating parties. Your treating parties, rehabilitation consultant and insurer may be able to work together to review potential equipment or make modifications to assist you recover at work or return to work with a new employer.
Please note, the rehabilitation consultant will assess if the equipment and workplace modifications are specific to the functional requirements to starting your employment.
Training program
The training program may assist you with the opportunity to develop new skills for an alternative job with your pre-injury employer or new employer. This program can assist with payment for the costs associated with completing a registered training organisation such as TAFE or university.
It's important to note there are certain SIRA requirements that must be met for you to be considered for this program. Please discuss further with your insurer and rehabilitation consultant.
JobCover placement program
The JobCover placement program aims to assist you gaining ongoing employment with a new employer. A new employer must offer you employment for a minimum of 12 months with 64 hours per month of work or your pre-injury hours. Transition to work program
The transition to work program helps with short-term financial barriers that prevent you from returning to work with a new employer. Your rehabilitation consultant can assess what financial barriers you are currently facing such as travelling to work costs, uniform and child-care expenses. Please contact your insurer and rehabilitation consultant to discuss financial barriers that are currently preventing you from accepting an offer of employment.
Connect2work
The Connect2work program is a voluntary work placement for up to 12 weeks with a host employer. If your pre-injury employer is unable to offer suitable duties or you are currently trying to source new employment, please contact your insurer and rehabilitation consultant to discuss the program further.
