David Hall

Wheelchair Tennis

David HallDavid Hall AO is often called the greatest wheelchair tennis player of all time. During his 15-year career, he won over 80 tournaments, including nine Australian Opens, eight US Opens, seven British Opens, and six Paralympic medals, including a gold medal at the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games.

In 1986, as a 16-year-old, David was hit by a car while hitchhiking to a party and, as a result, had both legs amputated.

He had a simple goal to return to work and a normal life. But when he saw a story on a wheelchair tennis player in his local newspaper, he signed up to play at his local club, setting him on the path to becoming a tennis champion.

David is inspired to tell his story so workers avoid taking risks and shortcuts.

“I want workers to think about situations where they may be in a hurry to ‘wait, catch yourself and just pause’. You may only have one chance to change what’s going to happen.

“Empowering employees to speak up about safety may avoid an accident or save a life.”
