icare seeking input on the future of workers compensation claims

Insurance and Care NSW (icare) is encouraging its customers and the community to “Have Your Say” on the way injured workers are supported back to work and life in NSW.

This is the first time in four years that icare has sought such comprehensive community and industry input into the claims model to improve the way claims are managed in the future. icare has launched a number of activities to make it as easy as possible for the voices of injured workers, businesses, unions, industry groups, service providers and the community to be heard.

The consultation is part of icare’s review of the management of workers compensation claims with the goal of providing simpler, better care for injured workers and support for businesses.

The feedback will directly input into the previously announced procurement process for claims service providers and a new direction for managing claims.

From today, the new survey is available on the NSW Government’s Have Your Say website and will stay open until Friday 5 November 2021.

Over the same period icare will conduct one-on-one interviews, focus groups and stakeholder briefings with employers, workers and other interested parties. Specifically, icare is seeking input into the importance of different aspects of the way an injured worker claim is managed, namely that:

  • We communicate and educate
  • We tailor our services
  • We are accountable, consultative, and transparent
  • We are considerate in our approach
  • We are fair, effective, and efficient
  • We make it easy.

The findings from the consultation will help inform the future claims strategy, including the number of, and selection criteria to assess, our future Claims Service Providers.

Following the consultation icare will provide an update on the workers compensation claims review and the upcoming procurement process for claims service providers.
