icare announces new Nominal Insurer leader

Mary Maini appointed Group Executive, Nominal Insurer.

New icare CEO and Managing Director Richard Harding today announced the appointment of Mary Maini as the Group Executive responsible for the Nominal Insurer, NSW's largest workers compensation scheme.

Ms Maini joins icare on 24 March 2021 and brings a wealth of experience in the insurance sector with more than 25 years in regulatory and claims management leadership roles. She comes to icare from the State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA) where she most recently led the implementation of the once in a generation Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance reforms.

"We are changing our focus at icare and the announcement today of Mary as the new leader of the Nominal Insurer is the next step," Mr Harding said.

"Mary has led both private and public sector teams across the insurance industry, CTP and personal injury, having held the role of General Manager for Claims at TAL and prior to that, leadership roles in CTP, Workers Compensation and Personal Injury at Insurance Australia Group (IAG).

"Mary has a proven track record of setting strategy and delivering outcomes through leadership, innovation and strong stakeholder relationships.

"Her experience will be a core ingredient to achieve icare's three new key focuses:

  • Improving risk and governance—to meet community and regulatory expectations
  • Improving performance—particularly getting injured workers back to work sooner and reducing internal costs
  • Driving an accountable culture—particularly for our leaders.

"There is no doubt her deep knowledge of the regulatory system in which we operate will be critical in this.

"Mary's priority will be to work with our scheme agent partners and icare teams to improve the performance of the Nominal Insurer to meet the expectations of employers, injured workers and the community.

"I look forward to her contribution at icare and am sure she will hit the ground running," Mr Harding said.

"I am enthused by the new focus at icare and look forward to being able to contribute hands-on in improving the lives of injured workers and supporting business," Ms Maini said.
