Community Support Services linked to strong wellbeing improvements for injured workers

icare delivers Community Support Services in the Workers Compensation scheme in partnership with Uniting NSW.ACT.

The program delivered by icare's chosen Community Support Services provider Uniting NSW.ACT (Uniting) significantly contributed to the wellbeing of 80 percent of injured workers who accessed support services from 2020 to 2023.

Uniting offers injured workers at risk of homelessness, social isolation, relationship breakdowns or financial distress, free additional support.

Tailored assistance helps injured workers to develop and achieve personal goals and strengthen connections within their communities, aligning to icare's purpose. Services include: income and housing support, employment and training, emergency and social support, and financial counselling.

Uniting uses the Personal Wellbeing Index survey to better understand the holistic needs of injured workers and drive service improvement. Respondents are asked to reflect on their: standard of living, personal health, achievement in life, personal relationships, personal safety, community connectedness and future security.

In a group of over 400 workers who participated in the program between 2020 and 2023, the average wellbeing score increased by 17 points by the end of Uniting's intervention.

Workers with a current Workers Compensation claim can access Community Support Services by speaking to their Case Manager, calling Uniting directly on 13 47 15 or completing an online referral.
