icare welcomes two new Paralympians to the Paralympic Speakers Program

Clint Pickin and David Hall join the program

icare, the Official Partner of Paralympics Australia, has welcomed two new Paralympians to the icare Paralympic Speakers Program.

David Hall: A wheelchair Tennis Legend

David Hall AO and Clint Pickin have joined the program, that in partnership with Paralympics Australia, provides businesses and government agencies who are icare customers with access to Paralympians who have been affected by an injury in the workplace or on the road, free of charge.

David Hall AO is often called the greatest wheelchair tennis player of all time. During his 15- year career, he won over 80 tournaments, including nine Australian Opens, eight US Opens, seven British Opens, and six Paralympic medals, including a gold medal at the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games.

In 1986, as a 16-year-old, David was hit by a car while hitchhiking to a party and, as a result, had both legs amputated.

He had a simple goal to return to work and a normal life. But when he saw a story on a wheelchair tennis player in his local newspaper, he signed up to play at his local club, setting him on the path to becoming a tennis champion.

David is inspired to tell his story, so workers avoid taking risks and shortcuts.

Clint Pickin: From Para-triathlon to Para-cycling

In 2014, while working on his family friend’s dairy farm, Clint got his foot caught in a machine that turns hay into feed for cattle. After being flown to hospital, his foot was amputated.

As part of his rehabilitation, Clint took up Para-triathlon and realised he could be a first-rate competitor. He went on to win a Para World Cup Bronze in 2018 and 2019 in Magog and a Silver in Devonport at the 2019 Para World Cup.

He was a three-time Oceania Para-triathlon Champion PTS4 Men (2018, 2019 and 2020) and Australian Para-triathlon Champion (2019).

Following a shoulder injury, Clint retired from Para-triathlon and has turned his focus to Para-cycling.

He is passionate about telling his story to raise awareness about the importance of training and being risk aware.
