icare aligns with industry-wide directive to review workers compensation payments

SIRA has issued an industry wide direction to review payments relating to Workers Compensation Commission (WCC) or Personal Injury Commission (PIC) decisions from October 2012 onwards.

SIRA has issued an industry wide direction (under section 194(1) of the Workers Compensation Act) to review payments relating to Workers Compensation Commission (WCC) or Personal Injury Commission (PIC) decisions from October 2012 onwards.

This follows SIRA’s finalisation of consultation with all insurers regarding indexation of weekly payments, following decisions made by the WCC or PIC.

SIRA has directed the industry to review claims where the WCC or PIC has made a decision about a worker’s ongoing weekly payments.

The review focuses on a specific cohort of claims that form part of icare’s historical indexation remediation program. icare has worked with SIRA to clarify how indexation is applied to claims where a WCC or PIC determination has been unclear.

icare are currently working through potentially impacted claims.  Based on initial reviews, icare anticipate a small number of claims with WCC or PIC determinations relating to weekly benefits may require an adjustment.

icare, together with our Claims Service Providers (CSPs) are working to proactively to identify and action eligible claims. Claimants do not need to take any action unless we contact you directly.

If you believe you might be affected by indexation underpayments and haven’t been reimbursed, or if you think your workers compensation payments are inaccurate, you can request a review from your Claims Service Provider (CSP).
