The tool gives you the ability to:

    • Examine the injury profiles of your industry including the nature of the injuries, how they occurred and who they impacted
    • Compare the injury and risk profiles of one industry to another
    • Explore the profiles of businesses, workers and claims covered by icare by location and industry.

  • Where do I go to find out more information on the WI industry insights tool and how to use it?
There are a series of video tutorials on how to use the WI industry insights tool in the Tutorials tab. You can find out more about the tool by emailing your questions to wireporting@icare.nsw.gov.au and an icare representative will respond to your inquiry.
  • What is the source of data used in the WI industry insights tool?
The WI industry insights tool draws on workers insurance datasets for businesses with an icare policy and claims reported during the 2022-23 financial year, as at 30 June 2023. This workers insurance data is drawn from the State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA) data warehouse and SAS datasets. The regions used are drawn from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
  • How often is the data updated?
The WI industry insights tool will be updated annually with the data from the previous financial year.
  • I notice that the data is different to workers insurance data from other sources. Why is that?
The WI industry insights tool draws on icare data for the previous financial year. This may differ from worker health and safety and workers insurance data from other government and corporate sources. These differences may be due to timeframes applied, the businesses and practices covered, or the method of data collection.
  • Can I download the data used in the tool in a spreadsheet?
No. icare is currently unable to provide the claims, injury and insurance data that is used in the WI industry insights tool.
icare has designed this Workers Insurance (WI) industry insights tool to make publicly available some of the information that icare collects through administering the Workers’ Compensation Insurance Scheme. This WI industry insights tool makes claims, injury, and insurance statistical data available to help you to understand common types of injury and their occurrence by industry, and to compare workplace injury and risk profiles across industry and across location. The data is collected during the period stated above from actual claims data, and is accurate at the time of publication. The data will be updated from time to time and icare makes no representation that the data will remain unchanged, or that the various indices shown on the WI industry insights tool will be provided indefinitely. The data is aggregated by sub-industry and location to avoid individuals and employers becoming identifiable. If you believe that your business, or an individual or business known to you, can be identified using this data, please contact us on policysupport@icare.nsw.gov.au. The data is compiled and made publicly available in the interests of greater transparency but no reliance should be placed on data obtained using this WI industry insights tool. The data is provided in the interests of encouraging and supporting workplace injury improvements and effective workers’ compensation insurance policy management, but icare makes no representations of fitness for purpose. No predictions of workplace injury, claims recoveries, or recovery timeframes, or any other statistic should be inferred from the data provided here. icare will not entertain any claim arising from the use of or reliance on the WI industry insights tool or on any or all of the data contained in it.
