Wayne Williams: Blue Angels

Category winner

"Blue Angels" is a song I have written and performed with assistance from RMT. The title refers to the nurses who wore blue scrubs in the brain unit where I was recovering. The lyrics detail the emotional turmoil and uncertainty that my condition brought about, as well as the hope and prosperity that the nurses provided for me.

Tim McCormack: Dead Man Walking

Highly commended

This song is about my car accident and my gratitude for surviving. My life has drastically changed and during my long recovery I have had lots of time to think about my life and the people in it. I have received so much kindness, generosity and sympathy from almost everyone I have encountered since; and this brings me a great deal of hope for my life and for my children.

Simon Page: Passion of Life

I wrote this song. The drums, strings, oboe, flute, trumpet, etc. It is called Passion of Life.

This song is transformative, joyful, upbeat, intense and represents the ebbs and flow of life. Having music being the dominant part of life, getting through the ups and downs of life.

Ernest (Sonny) Metcalfe: Gravity (cover)

As I relearnt to play the drums, I found a big appreciation in slower songs especially in 6/8 beat.

I started rehearsing for "Gravity" by John Mayer for this competition because I love this song. My carer, music therapists and I chose the arrangement of the song and rehearsed for two months. I love the teamwork, the group performance, going to music therapy and meeting people.
