Welcome to the Shine Arts Prize 2024

The Shine Arts Prize is returning in 2024, with the theme of "My favourite things".

The Shine Arts Prize showcases the artistic talent of participants and workers and recognises the role of art in maintaining wellbeing. The Shine Arts Prize is open to Lifetime Care participants and workers in the Workers Care Program.

Entries open: 9am 1 May 2024

Entries close: 5pm 31 July 2024

Prizes

Overall winner: $2000

Category winners: $1000

People's Choice award: $500

Categories

Category 1: Visual Arts (including Photography, Digital, Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, 3D art and Film or Video art)

Category 2: Music (inclusive of singing, instrumental, or audio)

Category 3: Children under 15 years of age (any art form)

Important information

  • For entries in category 3, the parent or guardian of the child must provide consent on behalf of the child
  • The maximum time limit for film and music entries is 4 minutes. Physical artworks must be under 1.2m wide x 1.2m long x 1.2m high in size
  • Accepted file types for entries: DOC, DOCX, PDF, JPEG, .mp3, .mp4, up to 5MB in size
  • The overall winner is not eligible for individual category prizes
  • Artists can enter up to 2 artworks
  • Artworks entered in the competition will be shortlisted for an in-person exhibition.

Jeremy Hawkes

Jeremy Hawkes is a professional artist, advocate, writer and sometime performer with over 25 years' experience. His work utilises drawing, painting, sculpture, digital imaging and performance. Since 2007 he has identified as an artist with disability, when a workplace accident revealed that he lives with acute degenerative disc disease, polyarthritis and advanced osteosclerosis.

Nat Thomas

Nat Thomas is a visual artist with a degree in traditional print making and drawing. She has previously worked with disability-led organisations to improve the lives of women and children with disability. Nat has a passion for helping people and pushes for equal rights of people with disability in all spaces. In her spare time, she enjoys learning how to do tricks in her wheelchair.

Michelle Brown

Michelle Brown is an award-winning artist based in South-West Sydney and has worked in the disability sector for the past several years. She is the owner and director of Michelle Brown Arts Studio – a progressive art studio that runs classes for people with disability.

Marion Conrow

Marion Conrow is a regional award-winning interdisciplinary artist, specializing in projection, sculpture, and site-specific installation for over 20 years. In 2007, Marion sustained a mild traumatic brain injury in a car accident. She resumed her arts practice in 2016-17 and has since exhibited widely.
