About Marcia

"I have worked in neurological rehabilitation as an occupational therapist and case manager since I graduated from Sydney University in 1995. I commenced my career working in a Brain Injury Rehabilitation Transitional Living Unit where I provided occupational therapy and case management services to adults transitioning into community living. I moved to Canada in 1998 where I worked with a range of community-based services offering both occupational therapy intervention and case management services for adults and children with complex injuries.

Of special note, I provided consultation and assessment services to a Behavioural Rehabilitation Unit. I joined a community based occupational therapy service specialising in cognitive rehabilitation and assisted in establishing their driving rehabilitation services. I moved back to Australia in 2004 and continued working as a case manager and occupational therapist in the brain injury sector, dealing with a range of complex issues regarding cognitive, psychosocial and community functioning. This has included being an approved iCare case manager and care needs assessor for adults and children with traumatic brain injury and spinal injury.

Areas of expertise and interest include cognitive retraining programs; FIM and WeeFIM credentialed assessor; driving rehabilitation programs with current driver trained registration. Case management services have included person-centred planning; supporting, motivating, and engaging participants towards identified goals; networking with community services and informal support systems; working in collaboration with other health and care providers; monitoring and evaluating outcomes; and co-ordinating complex rehabilitation programs to promote wellbeing and independence."
