"Karen is a case manager with a background in occupational therapy, with significant experience working with adults in the community, including those with complex and challenging physical, social, and psychological needs. She has worked with people who have had traumatic injuries, degenerative neurological conditions, disabilities, health conditions, and work injuries. Karen aims to provide wholistic support to people by assisting them to meet their rehabilitation and care goals through connecting a team of qualified and experienced clinicians and professionals to help you to meet your goals.
As a case manager, Karen helps people to reach their goals and participate in meaningful life roles. She is keen to empower participants and their families/ carers to make their own choices, regain control, and find creative ways to manage their treatment, rehabilitation and care journey. She does this through providing education, encouragement, suggesting possible solutions, and drawing together specialist teams to help you when needed. She is also aware that not everything in life is ‘smooth sailing’ and is there to help people when challenging times come along.
Karen has supported many people along their treatment and rehabilitation journeys, through working as an occupational therapist in roles in various hospitals, rehabilitation units and community settings. As an occupational therapist she helps people set up their home and work environments to maximise independence, using environmental modifications and education, completing reasonable and necessary requests for:
- Equipment such as wheelchairs, seating and positioning, pressure care, manual handling equipment, daily living equipment, adaptive aids
- Minor home/ workplace modifications
- Assistive technology / computer access
Karen works as a case manager in this part-time role three days per week, which means that she may be best suited to work with people on the participation continuum who have less intensive support needs or those who have completed intensive rehabilitation."
