North West Disability Services (NWDS) is a not for profit organisation that has been providing individualised supports to people with a disability since 1984. NWDS provides innovative and flexible service delivery that focuses on what the individual wants and needs to achieve to improve the quality of life for themselves and their family. NWDS provides services within the North Western metropolitan Sydney including the Hawkesbury area.
NWDS has a continual focus on quality and making improvements to service delivery. As part of this focus NWDS achieved Attendant Care Industry Management System Standard (ACIMSS) certification in 2011 and Attendant Care Industry Standard (ACIS 2013) in 2014 and again in 2017
Services are person-centred and promote maximum opportunities for growth and participation within their local community. Each person’s care schedule and progress to completing goals is closely monitored with adjustments made when the need is identified.
Staff have specialist skills in supporting individuals with a disability, with most undertaking or having completed tertiary qualifications in supporting people with a disability. All staff complete Provide First Aid and have completed extensive practical training that is followed up with competency assessment. All staff are thoroughly screened and complete a Criminal Record check and a Working with Children check.
Community and social participation opportunities are vital for the effective participation of individuals with a disability in their local community. Staff support provides an opportunity for each individual to get involved and contribute to their community in a positive and satisfying way.
Each participant and their family is encouraged to be fully involved in the selection and training of the staff that will be working with the participants. Each Participant is also allocated a single primary contact at NWDS and encouraged to ask questions or raise concerns. NWDS has a robust complaints management system to ensure all feedback received is followed up and actions implemented to address the issue in a timely manner. All participants are given the contact of a 24 hour on call Coordinator to assist in unforeseen changes of circumstances.
